Each piece is a unique, hand-painted work of art, capturing the inner world of the deeply wooded Rambouillet forest and its creatures. The plate measures approximately 7 3/8 in diameter. It features a design with a flying mallard duck landing in a cattail marsh.
The back side is marked with the Gien castle logo, "Peint Main" (hand painted), and the artist's initials. The plate is made from Faience, a fine and porous earthenware which is tin-glazed and then fired repeatedly. The Rambouillet pattern is made by special request from Gien, but the factory has temporarily suspended taking orders.
Salad plates seem very hard to find and I can't find any listed for sale by secondary market suppliers. Condition of this Gien Rambouillet salad plate is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. I see a couple of very faint utensil marks (barely used). Some minor crazing is visible on the back side. Overall, this plate looks fantastic and would make a fine addition to any Rambouillet table service. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. As I mentioned previously, this salad plate is very hard to find. While you're here, please check out my other listings by clicking on the link below.
